In December 2004, EPCglobal formed a position that the 9 patents held by Intermec Technologies Corporation are not necessary to practice the Generation-2 standard developed by EPCglobal.
Subsequent to EPCglobal's position, Intermec informed EPCglobal that based on their findings,Intermec is relieved of any obligation to grant licenses under that intellectual property and gives Intermec the right to set any terms and conditions it wishes if it chooses to license that intellectual property. As a result, Intermec immediately withdrew its previous commitment to license this intellectual property and to do so on RAND terms.
Following are documents providing the exchange between EPCglobal and Intermec, as well as a document containing Intermec's commentson EPCglobal's IP assessment.
