THE CHALLENGE: cost-effective and accurate weapons tracking

Every day, federal, state and local government agencies are faced with the daunting task of weaponry management. Whether small arms need to be issued to ocal police officers or larger weapons and ammunition are to be issued to military troops, government agencies need to know who has which weaponry, where weaponry is located, when weaponry is due for maintenance and whether that maintenance has been completed on time.

There is no room for error. If weaponry is inadvertently mis-shipped, distributed to the wrong person or required maintenance is not performed on time, the results could be disastrous.

THE SOLUTION: Direct Part Marks (DPMs)

With Direct Part Marks (DPM), government agencies can easily track and manage weaponry from the moment it is received to the moment it is retired, without time-consuming and error-prone manual procedures. A direct part mark (DPM) is a bar code that is permanently embedded directly on the surface of an item. And when these marks contain unique serialized data (much like RFID tags), items that contain DPMs are easy to track and manage — from a handgun to a rifle, missile or bomb. A DPM-enabled scanner captures the data — no paper or pen, no data entry — so there is no opportunity for erroneous identification.
